Our Curriculum for 2011-2012



For the 2011-2012 school year, our 6th year of homeschooling, we will have a grade 9 (high school!!), a grade 7, and a grade 2. I don't follow exactly their grade level for everything, choosing instead to match their abilities and interests, but I still keep in mind what they "should" be covering in the main subjects of Language Arts and Math.

Below you will find the list, per child, of the curriculum we are using:

Adrienne ~ Grade 9

Math: Teaching Textbooks Algebra 1

Grammar: Gage Language Power Gr. 9
Writing and Literature Study: Jensen's Format Writing and Lightning Literature 8
Vocabulary: Vocabulary from Classical Roots B
Spelling: Sequential Spelling
Poetry: IEW Poetry Memorization
Foreign Language: Spanish: Oxford Take Off in Spanish


History: Ancient History using The History of the Ancient World as a spine (will explain more in a future post)

World Geography: Harmony Art Mom Geography and Cultures Plans + Mapping the World by Heart

Science: High School Biology with Lab Oak Meadow

Health: Library books and various resources (Health Canada, KidsHealth in the Classroom) and plan + log her own nutrition and fitness achievements

Civics (Canadian Government, Canadian Politics, and Current Events): Library books and resources (Canadians and Their Government Resouce Guide + Parliament of Canada Teacher Kit)
Art and Music Appreciation: Harmony Fine Arts at Home ~ Grade Nine 

Career Planning: What Colour is Your Parachute for Teens: Discovering Yourself, Defining Your Future

Andre ~ Grade 7

Science: "Aristotle Leads the Way" Story of Science + follow along with Celeste (with adjustments)
