Last week of Wreck this Journal

This is the last Friday for the book club of Wreck this Journal at the Next Chapter, hosted by the wonderful Jamie Riddler...I think all of us wreckers are sad today to see it end but the good news is, we'll find out today what the next book is, and that we can continue on with the wreckage on our own!!

Here are a few pictures for this last week:

Wreck this journal ~ last week

We did two very short videos this morning, first is dropping the journal from our kitchen door to the backyard and the second is Celeste swinging the journal wildly and letting it hit the walls! Fun start of the day!!

If you are interested in seeing all the wreckage my family and I had fun doing these past two months check out : my wrecking posts!.

The creativity through wrecking is amazing to see. You can check out all the other wreckers at Next Chapter book club: Wreck this Journal book club.

So...what did I take away from spending the last 2 months wrecking this journal??

For me, it has been all about fun and letting my creativity out to play! That wrecking, as silly as it was, reminded me how important it is to take the time for myself to create, let my silliness come out, and to share that side of me with my kids (and even the neighborhood kids!). I also want to make sure that I keep going, by keeping an art journal. I am hoping to keep my word and be able to share with you bits of it over the coming months.

Finally, if you are one of the happy wreckers, just want to say one last hello and how fun it was to visit all your blogs each friday and see your wonderful creativity. Thank you, you were all inspiring!

Wreck this journal - week 8

Another great week of wrecking! This has been so much fun to do with my kids (and the neighborhood kids) these last few weeks. Here is the wrecking this week:
The handprint page, all the kids took turns covering their fingers with markers and pressing them down on the right page and I did my handprint on the left, later on with paint.

This is another page done with the kids on the street, a few ugly drawings, mostly barf, and poo! Oh and one bird!

wtj week 8 ugly drawings

I ended up doodling on this page while watching a movie, because I just never remembered to grab this page while I was on the phone!

wtj week 8 envelope

My fruit sticker page is pretty much done:

I don't read the newspaper, so this is from the flyers we get once a week:

wtj week 8 newspaper

Tracing the things in my purse, pretty practical stuff...

These are prints from strawberries and cherries:

This page is a work in progress, collecting things I find outside or in the house:

This page is for negative comments. I wasn't sure what to write at first, but then it just started coming out of me..I guess this page could be a type of therapy. These are some of the comments that my mother told me over and over while I was growing up...

Back to fun stuff...Writing backwards!!
A couple of the kids on the street wanting to try writing their names backward, so the right page is theirs, and the left is mine.

How was your wrecking this week?

Wreck this journal - week 7

I received Bev's splatter page!! I really enjoyed being part of the swap and will be adding this page to my journal:

I brought my journal outside a few days ago and the neighborhood kids loved looking through the whole thing! I told them they could do some of the wrecking too and they loved every minute of it.

I didn't take photos of the kids, but here are a few of the pages they worked on.

They also took turns throwing it against the brick wall. It was a ton of fun for everyone!
(I do wonder what stories they told their parents when they got home...!!)

One girl even wrapped it in toilet paper, and I had to wait 2 days to unwrap it!

wtj week 7

Adrienne and I had fun smearing some of our breakfast on this page! Peanut butter, nutella, banana, and a bit of berry juice!

wtj week 7

I started working on the stain log, added a little bit of my daughter's chewy candy, which ended up sticking really good to the other page and ripping a bit of it.

Wreck this journal ~ Week 6

Another great week of wrecking!

I ended up painting over my white flowers page with white paint mixed with a little silver sparkles, and I started outlining some of the flowers with a pencil:

I used my daughters Barbie fashion kit to do some rubbings!

Here are a few more pages from this week:
my sign says "WELCOME", writing and drawing with my left hand, tracing my hand. I started adding a few things to the office supplies page, and my fruit stickers page is almost full. The last one in this group is the colour the entire page one, I felt like doing a collage instead of colouring, a bit of a rainbow!

WTJ week 5

I spilled my iced coffee on this page, using a straw. I was surprised it wasn't a bit darker on the page, since I drink my coffee dark.

I just couldn't leave this page completely blank...

I enjoyed doing this one:

Last picture! I sent away my favourite page to a fellow wrecker and can see that she already received it (see it here)!

Wreck this journal - week 5

Another great week of wrecking!

I decided to try out vlogging and show myself...which was a stretch because I am so much more comfortable behind the camera.

If you listen to my video and have a suggestion or answer for me, please leave it in the comments. Thank you :)

I added the photos of my pages below too, in case you can't make them out in the vlog or that you bypass it!

and here is a very short video of us taking our journal for a walk. Sorry it is sideways, because I am one of those people that forgets I can't tilt my camera while taking videos the way I do while taking a photo...

Added friday evening:

I completely forgot to add one of my favourite pages this week..the paint splatter page:

Wreck this journal - week 3

This past week was so much fun with my journal! This time my girls helped out, Adrienne with the circles and the paper airplane, and Celeste with the circles page. We even had our puppy Orion helping us out...I figured out how to get him involved Jamie ;-) You can watch our short video to see him in action!

WTJ week 3

The mosaic above shows many of the pages we worked on this week. Here are what they represent in order from top to bottom, left to right:

1. I added a couple of squirts of my new perfume Flower by Kenzo my mom sent me for my birthday ~ my journal smells lovely now !
2. Lose this page is in the recycle bin, after seeing the suggestion from another participant, I wrote on the back side a list of things I want to let go of.
3. Decorating the edges
4. 4 letter words ~ Adrienne helped out with writing a few, while my husband and son kept coming up with new words
5. fruit sticker collection ~ ongoing!
6, 7, and 8. our circles page ~ Adrienne, Celeste and I did those pages using markers
9 and 10. Adrienne building the paper airplane and flying it
11. I tore the strips on the page and wrote on them
12. Pressed a few wildflowers and leaves found on my morning walk with Orion

A few last pictures from this week..I really had a lot of fun with my journal! Cutting it with some scrapbook fancy scissors, taking it in the shower with me, and trying out every single marker my kids have!! I was able to sort out the dried out ones in the process. Fun and useful :)

Wreck this journal ~ Week 2

I have to say first THANKS! to everyone that left comments on my first post for Wreck this Journal last week. It was so nice to hear from other participants, and I enjoyed visiting everyone's blogs to see their destructions, or their thoughts about the upcoming destruction of their journal. You can visit the Next Chapter and see all this week's creative wrecking here.

This past week has been so eventful for us, with the adoption of our siberian husky puppy, Orion

Orion ... catching up on sleep

but I had managed to have fun with my journal and my son at the beginning of the week. Most were done on Monday morning, and what a perfect way to start the week!

Here are some photos from our wrecking this week:

Wreck this journal ~ First Day..with a helper!

Today is the first day of the Next Chapter book club for Wreck this Journal by Keri Smith. This is going to be so interesting...seeing everyone's creative destruction! I hope to see lots of pictures from the other participants, so I will make sure to add many in my posts!

I had mentioned here that my son wanted to help me along with the destruction, but this morning I had a different helper.. my little one, Celeste (5) asked to help. We picked the Instructions page, coloured all the letters with crayons, then used watercolours pencils and water to create a background. Lots of fun!

Next we worked on the paper chain page. Celeste coloured the top part of the little strips with crayons, and I did the bottom. I ripped the page out and she cut the strips. We both constructed the chain. I can't say I see the destruction too much from today's pages, besides ripping the one page out of the journal, but it was a lot of fun anyway !

The destruction has begun!!

Coming up in June : Destruction!

I took part in The Next Chapter blogging book club, almost finishing the 12 Secrets. Even though I didn't finish, it was perfect. The next selection for this online book club is very interesting!

We are going to work through a book (well actually a journal) called "Wreck This Journal" by Keri Smith. We can share as much or as little as we want on the Next Chapter blog, really open and relaxed. I like that!

A few weeks back, the kids and I were at Indigo (book store) and I thought I would take a look at this journal/book. My son Andre (he's 10) was curious by the title and so, as I flipped though it, I would share some of the assignments. He told me I just had to do this, and that he really would like to participate too, in my journal, together. I wasn't surprised, and I think it would be a ton of fun to do some of it with him. He volunteered to do the "eat a colourful candy and lick the page" right away, and a few others, but I don't want to spoil the fun !! The journal is full of wild and destructive instructions like that. Should be interesting!

We start June 5th and I will be posting pictures as we go along. If you are interested in participating too, you can still sign up at the Next Chapter blog site, and let me know too, it will be great seeing your wrecked journals!!
