Lego Quest :: Micro-Scale

Adrienne's city for the micro-scale lego quest.
Note the penny leaning against the house at the bottom of the photo for scale.

Close-up detail. This is the prison for the city, complete with water tower.

Adrienne first gave me this creation when I told her of the new quest, then she continued adding to it!
"Lego Quest is a monthly challenge for LEGO loving kids. It is non-competitive, creative fun. There are no winners and there are no commitments. Play along only when you are inspired by the challenge. New challenges come out the first monday of every month." Check it out: Lego Quest.

Lego Quest # 34 :: 30 pieces

Adrienne and Andre participated in this Lego Quest. Everyone had to have the exact same amount of legos and the same kind of legos as well. You can see what they had to work with in the photo above. The Lego Quest blog received 75 entries for this challenge!! All the creations are awesome, you can see them all here. Lego Quest is for homeschoolers/unschoolers from all over the world.

Adrienne created a "robot from Saturn. The little lego pieces are flowers. The robot is visiting our earth to destroy it once he finds comrades."

Andre decided to build a city. Here is his description:

"This is a city with a skyscraper in the middle. The building to the left of the tall skyscraper with the green top is a library. The one to the right, with the yellow roof, is recreation centre. The little ones at the front are houses in a small subdivision. The orange building at the far right is a recycling centre. The red building behind the library is a science laboratory. "

Lego Quest # 27 :: Archeology

This week's theme for the Lego Quest was "archeology" and both Adrienne and Andre participated.

This is the story Andre told me : "The red pile of bricks is an egg. This egg is from when the dinosaurs died, there was a dragon there and the dragon threw the egg out of the atmosphere. The egg started to orbit the earth and one day it was hit by a meteorite and it came hurdling back into the atmosphere. It struck this area and the people that work at Area 51 came to excavate it. They are planning on bringing it to Area 51 and putting it in an electrical cage until it hatches. The person with the number 10 on its back is looking for evidence in the soil. The person with the space helmet is looking for evidence in the water. The person with the red top and blue pants  (holding the pile of red bricks) is pulling the egg out of the water."

Here is Adrienne's archeology site's description which goes with the photo below: "The black tent is where they examined the objects found at the site. On the site there are more objects dug up, broom, wheel, money, treasure chest, lamp. One digger found the head of R2-D2 in the dirt by the river. The brown area has been all dug up, the green area on the other side of the river will be dug up later."

Lego Quest # 26 :: Playgrounds

Another great Lego Quest challenge! This time, Adrienne had to build a playground.
Here is her description of it:

"This playground has different parts, a merry-go-round, a seesaw, and a spinning ride. There are green areas for running, a black bench, and a snack stand for when you get thirsty or hungry. The snack stand owner keeps a small rooftop garden."

Sam at Lego Quest received so many entries for this quest, you can see more here.
She also mentions a great free unit study "Learning with Lego".

Book Sharing Monday :: The Lego Book

Andre waited for weeks to have his turn with this book from our local library!
The Lego Book is written by Daniel Lipkowitz for DK is perfect for the Lego enthousiast, young and old. The first section of the book tells the history behind the Lego Group and how the Lego Brick came to be. You also find out how Lego Bricks are made, and how many are made each day. There is a timeline that explains the evolution of Lego toys and the company behind them.  The Lego Play Themes section is basically like a catalogue of all play sets ever made. It also includes the licensed Lego themes sets, like Star Wars and Harry Potter.  There are Lego theme parks called Legoland and these have their own section in the book as well.  The last section of the book is called A Lego World and covers everything else, showing how a simple toy from Denmark has become an international phenomenon.

If you are participating in Book Sharing Monday, please include your link below. Thank you!

Lego Quest # 23 :: Cityscape

Adrienne created this small cityscape for the Lego Quest. She told me that the white building is a hospital, the rest are various city buildings that she enjoyed making.

Lego Quest # 18 :: Flags

The girls participated in this past week's Lego Quest. The assignment was to ceate a flag design, or use the colour or design of an existing flag.
Celeste decided to make the France flag and added 4 supportive blocks to keep it together. She chose this flag because France is where I grew up and she can't wait to visit some day!
Adrienne picked the Canada flag since we live in Canada. I really like the look of this flag too.

You can see many other lego flags from other homeschoolers at the Lego Quest site.
