{this moment}
{this moment} - A Friday ritual. A single photo - no words - capturing a moment from the week. A simple, special, extraordinary moment. A moment I want to pause, savor and remember.

photos by Andre
Andre received a digital camera for his birthday and has been trying it out a lot. I think it's wonderful seeing things through his eyes. Here are a few of my favourites from the last few days. I didn't touch up any of his photos, these are just the way they came out of his camera.

Photography and Art Challenges for Kids
Here are two photo and art challenges that might interest your family:
The Cornell Lab of Ornithology, better known in our house for the Celebrate Urban Birds, is hosting a challenge called "A Murder of Crows and Other Spooky Bird Tales". They point out that a murder is the name for a large group of crows. This is a photo-video-art challenge. You can write a story or poem, take a photo or video, do a painting about crows, pigeons, starlings, or any kind of bird doing something strange. The deadline is Halloween, and there are some pretty cool prizes like binoculars, birdfeeders, CDs, etc...

National Geographic is hosting an International Photography Contest for Kids. It ends November 2, 2009 and is open to kids 6 to 14 years of age.

Snow Storm!
Here are more pictures from yesterday's snow storm...we are supposed to get more tomorrow!
The first one shows part of our backyard and the other side of the crescent we live on, more like a U than a crescent. The second is our back steps. I know the kids thought they would try sledding down those!

Doesn't our simple wreath look so nice with the snow on it?

Can you guess what that is? If you said spider webs, you are right! I knew I left those up for a reason! Fairy and I thought it was so neat!

Fairy helped me shovel in the morning. We don't have neighbours on the one side, and the wind was blowing the snow hard during the storm, you can see it all over the bricks of the house!

Photo of the Day ~ Dec.15

Fairy has a dress rehearsal for the school choir show today, they are all supposed to be dressing like who-ville people from the Grinch. We were told to use lots of stripes, and try to do some wacky hair do...not sure if hers will do. I guess I will find out at 3:30 today!

Photo of the Day ~ Dec. 13
Brought to you by .... Fairy!
** Updated tonight - I didn't have time to add much more this morning, besides the fact that Fairy took this photo of her cat Clara. That green little thing with the cat is her favourite toy. It is just a little stuffed Neopet from McDonalds. I honestly think she is confused about her identity. As someone commented on a previous post, she missed the "cat 101" class! This is what she loves to do with the toy: one of us "humans" will throw the toy and she runs after it. We all thought this was too funny and cute, so we used to go and get the toy for her and do it again, and again and again. Well, for the last few days, she now brings it back herself, in her mouth, drops it back down close to us, and just waits. She will play for a while doing this, running and fetching! Down the stairs is her favourite, she just flies down them, and runs back with the thing in her mouth...too cute! I have been trying to get a picture of her and as soon as I get one that isn't blurry, I will share!

Photo of the Day ~ Dec.11

We rented this game for the Wii this week. Animal Crossing is a fun game that we had played a few years ago on the Gamecube. Dragon, Fairy, Dad and myself all had our own characters on it, with our own little houses, mortgages, etc!!! I thought we would check out the new version for the Wii. This time it's just Dragon, Fairy and I playing it. We are having fun fishing, digging for fossils, picking up seashells and flowers, and selling our stuff to the store or donating it to the museum. It is a fun game, that will probably end up on the Christmas wish list!

Photo of the Day ~ Dec.10 @ the high school !

Fairy performed with her school choir at the local high school tonight, as part of their Art Night. It was great to listen to the elementary school kids (including Fairy) singing Christmas songs, and also to hear the high school band play. My favourite from the band was a number that had a superhero theme, a medley of Batman, James Bond and even Austin Powers. There was a solo, a violinist that was amazing. The last performance was the choir again, with the high school band!
After the show, we walked around the school looking at their art display, photographs, drawings, paintings, and even murals. I could tell that Fairy was interested in this high school!

Santa letters have arrived! Fairy helped Princess by writing her letter and also sent one herself. Today they each received an answer from the North Pole!
