Book Sharing Monday

April is poetry month and we have been enjoying reading poetry. I found many poetry books at our local library, and included them at the top of this blog. The one that I am sharing today is published by Barefoot Books. It is a book full of poems about time called First Morning, compiled by Nikki Siegen-Smith and beautifully illustrated by Giovanni Manna.
The poem with the illustration of the boy on the beach above is what I am sharing with you today:
Pebbles by John Cunliffe
We collect days,
Like a boy collecting pebbles
On the beach.
Suddenly his pockets are heavy.
Suddenly, we are old.

Mystery Class Update #9

Sunrise/sunset data up to March 30, 2009
Organized by Northern/Southern Hemisphere, the space in between representing the equator, each sheet is then placed as closest or furthest away from the equator.
So far, our mystery classes are organized in this way:
Northern Hemisphere: 5, 10, 2, 3, 8, 1, 6 (5 being the place we are guessing is furthest away from the equator, and 6 the one closest to it)
Southern Hemisphere: 4, 9, 7 (4 being closest to the equator, 7 further away)
After reading this past Friday's clues , we have a little bit more of an idea for some of the mystery classes, but nothing sure yet!

Sketch Tuesday

We just started taking part in Sketch Tuesday, hosted by Harmony Fine Arts. Each week is a different theme, and we sketch something to do with that theme. This past week was "something in outer space". I participated along with Adrienne and Andre. It was a lot of fun, and I find always relaxing to take the time to sit, draw and colour something. Here are our sketches, first one is Adrienne's, then Andre's and last is mine:

Earth Hour 2009 Update

I just received an e-mail from WWF Canada with an update on Saturday's Earth hour that put a huge smile on my face :

Earth Hour was a huge global success with 3,937 cities and towns turning out their lights, across 88 countries. With almost a billion people mobilized, Earth Hour 2009 was the biggest environmental demonstration in history! Millions of Canadians took part all across the nation, along with nearly 1,000 businesses, helping to make our skylines go dark.

People were inspired across the country and around the globe as monuments such as the CN Tower, the Eiffel Tower, the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt, the Acropolis and the Empire State Building went dark. This year we welcomed new participation from people in countries such as India and China, and welcomed back the countries that celebrated Earth Hour in 2008.
